Skooba R101-151 Checkthrough Laptop Roller Case (Black)

The patent-pending Checkthrough Roller is a sleek, lightweight rolling laptop/business/travel case designed and rigorously-tested to be "checkpoint-friendly," so you can run it through airport x-ray screening without removing your computer. The bag opens and hinges in the middle to separate and isolate the laptop compartment from the rest of the bag. For initial, immediate visual reference, the laptop can be seen by the inspector through a clear, quick-recognition window that is exposed when the bag is unfolded. With the window facing up, the bag is sent through x-ray screening. The design of the laptop compartment is such that the image presented to the screener is the same as if the laptop were removed and placed in a bin. The Checkthrough bag and all of its contents can be carried securely with or without the hinge zipped shut, so it can be readied in line, prior to screening. Once through, the traveler can simply pick up the bag and go, zipping it back up on the move or at the gate. It is the intention and expectation of all involved in the “checkpoint-friendly” bag program that once fully implemented, the process will move smoothly and that suitably designed and constructed bags, properly packed and used, will move through the system efficiently as planned. However, in all instances, screening personnel always have the right to require laptop removal, secondary screening, or any other measures deemed necessary to ensure travel security.

User Reviews about Skooba R101-151 Checkthrough Laptop Roller Case (Black)

I have not yet had to use this product to carry-on my lap top but I love the design so far. The only comment I have is that the comapny could have made the zipper that slits the case in have different since when you are in line with the strap over your shoulder you are trying to figure out which zipper to pull without dumping the rest of your stuff. -- Skooba
I used to carry a regular laptop bag on my shoulder and a roller bag when I went on business trips. But most of my trips are 1-2 days so I would have a roller bag that was almost empty and a laptop bag to lug around. Good luck finding overhead bin space on overcrowded planes these days. I really wanted a bag that could carry my laptop, accessories and a change of clothes...and was small and light enough for everyday use. I was about to get the Wenger Patriot. That is a really nice quality bag...probably one of the best out there. But there were two reasons why I didn't buy it:

1) The Patriot bag is fat. It won't easily fit under an airline seat.
2) The Patriot bag is heavy. It would be great for trips since it has room for 2-3 days of clothes but not for everyday use.

I was getting really frustrated finding something that fit my requirements. Then I sat next to a guy on the plane that had one of these babies. It is slim enough to fit under your seat. It is just a bit more than half the weight of the Patriot--you can feel the difference when you pick it up. It has a sophisticated and minimalist design. Not too flashy and very professional--I'm not embarrassed to take it into executive briefings.

The TSA Checkthrough feature is awesome. It saves me time on security lines. I put my laptop and power cable in that compartment and it goes right through with no issues.

A couple of concerns. One is that the clothing compartment really only can hold one change of clothes. I don't think you can do a 2 or 3 day trip with this bag alone. Another concern is that there aren't a lot of pockets; just a laptop compartment, an accessories compartment and a clothes compartment. I carry a lot of accessories (portable hard drives, chargers, business cards, etc) so I thought that I couldn't fit them all in. But this design actually turned out to be a positive. I bought two sandwich size boxes (I think it is Rubbermaid) and filled them with all my accessories and put them in the storage compartment next to the clothes section. It fits perfectly and I'm much more organized this way.

Still, it would be nice to have an outside pocket to throw keys, receipts, gum, etc. There is a pocket in the back but it is so tight, I could barely fit my boarding passes in there. For that reason alone, I deducted one star.

In summary, this is the perfect bag if you do a lot of overnight trips and need to carry a laptop. If you do 2-3 night trips and don't mind carrying a bulkier bag, then the Wenger is probably a better choice. I figured that I would use this for overnight trips but I still have my laptop bag and my roller case for longer trips. So this is the bag for me. I would buy it again. -- the best bag for frequent fliers
I travel a lot for work and normally carry on both an upright and a laptop bag with the luggage strap. In this scenario this particular Skooba bag is too large and does not sit on top of the upright nor does it work with the luggage strap. If you're wanting to use a bag in that same scenario I would purchase the regular Skooba checkthrough bag (that's not a roller bag). What I like about this roller bag is it's great for those trips where I need to check a larger suitcase and don't want to lug around a big laptop bag. It is pretty large, and for those who travel on regional jets it won't fit under the seat in front of you. It will, however, fit in the overhead bin - even in the smaller regional jets - it's tight but it does fit.

I don't carry extra clothing in this bag but I do usually have lots of electronic gear and folders and they fit great in the compartments. It's very simple to unzip and open to go through security and just as easy to pick up and walk away without fumbling around. I've never had a TSA agent request to have my laptop taken out. If you normally check your upright luggage and looking for a nice laptop roller bag with the added convenience of the checkthrough design, this is your bag. -- Many pros with few disappointments
Bought this to carry my Sony Vaio VPCF115FM. I checked with Skooba Customer Service to see if it would fit. They said it should. Bag arrived and looks good. Bag fits computer very well with no big issues. I like the way it opens and a window to allow security to see the Computer. Have not had the travel with it yet but will be soon and will update this accordingly. It does have just one large space for carrying things but not sure how all will fit. But mainly I want it to carry just a change of clothes in-case airlines would lose my bag (Never Happens!). It is wide and like a previous reviewer maybe hard to roll down the aisle. But I usually carry it and I have only one bag and try not to carry all my luggage on board like some others....Overall, Pleased with this bag so far.... -- Very Nice Bag
I thought I was going to love this product since I spend so much time going through airports these days, but unfortunately there are some major downsides to the bag.

First the pros:
-Love the checkpoint friendly feature and 'upside down' zipper configuration for getting through security
-Wheels are durable and handle length is good (I'm 5'10")
-Sleek design and light weight

Cons:
-Too deep. If you are planning on putting it atop your regular carry-on, make sure to weigh your carry-on down. This thing is very wide and deep and has a tendency to cause your carry on to tip over. It does at least have the back strap area that slides over the handle of the carry-on
-Too few pockets. I carry portfolios and papers with me, along with my laptop and other writing utensils. However, there is no real good place to put your loose papers or magazines. There is one large compartment in the center with a single loose divider, but no pockets for the little things.
-Very wide...have fun trying to carry this thing down the aisles on the plane, because you won't be able to roll it in those tight areas.

If all you're looking for is a way to get through security faster, then this is a good bag. However, if you are looking to carry plenty of items with you on a trip, look for something else. -- Better for an overnight trip than an extended business trip.
